NRG, a wholly owned subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc., today announced that the solar power plant it acquired from Recurrent Energy earlier this year has entered commercial operation. The plant, which according to the press release generates around 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from solar plants annually, is now in commercial operation.
The plant has a peak capacity of 20 megawatts (AC), and the California Utilities Commission last month approved a contract with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG & E) to buy the power from the solar plant. The two solar power plants are located in Lancaster, California, and Kings County, California. NRG's other two California photovoltaic plants, with a total capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) AC, supply electricity to customers in Los Angeles County, San Diego County and San Bernardino County.
SEIA has reached an agreement to achieve changes to SDG & D tariffs that will allow more customers to use solar and storage technologies and require utilities to consider renewable energy use in their grid upgrades by 2021.
